Vern Taylor went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 10, 2017. He was better known as "Chi Chi" and was born on January 14, 1948 to John Taylor and Evelyn (Wheeler) Taylor.

Vern grew up in Albion. He had a passion for fishing, riding his moped and sitting on his deck and barbecuing. He married his one and only love, Wanda Jeanne (Washington) Taylor on April 17, 1972. To this union were born three beautiful daughters, Naomi Smith, Phoebe Taylor, and Wanda Lovie LaVern Taylor.

Family was important to him as he loved spending time with his wife and daughters. They went on numerous vacations and special outings together making memories that will forever be cherished. He was always there to celebrate every achievement. He was a hard worker and put all of his children through college by working overtime at Harvard Industries for over 30 years. Once retired he continued to enjoy being around his friends at the shop and begin working at Calhoun Foundry where he worked another 12 years.

Vern was a proud member of Grace Temple Church of God in Christ. He had an unforgettable smile and a loving and caring heart. He leaves a legacy through his daughter Naomi (Doran) Smith, two brothers, Virgil (Janet) Taylor and John Taylor, and two sisters, Pat Taylor and Verena Davis; three sister in-laws, Helen (William) Murphy, Lovie Larain (James) Smith, and Verena (Tony) Westbrook; two brother in-laws, Eddie (Deloris) Washington, and Robert (Roslyn) Washington; one special daughter LaNiece White; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and two grand dogs, Salvation and Hallelujah.
A great cloud of witnesses awaited his arrival and among them was his wife of 43 years, Wanda Jeanne (Washington)Taylor, his daughter Phoebe Taylor, and his baby daughter Wanda Lovie LaVern Taylor; mother and father, John and Evelyn (Wheeler) Taylor; one brother, Theodore Taylor, and one sister, Lorretta Whitney.

Celebration of his life will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Grace Temple Church of God in Christ. The family hour is set for 10:00am with the home going service to follow at 11:00am. Pastor Stephen C. Williams officiating and internment will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
